Hello 3rd Grade Families,

Picture re-takes are this Thursday. If you would like for your child to retake photos, please send him/her in a regular school uniform and pack PE clothes in the backpack. Pictures will be taken first thing in the morning. Once those are done, your child can change into the packed PE uniform for the rest of the day.

This week in class…

Math: Unit 3: Measurement. The students are learning all about the difference between customary (inches, feet, yards, miles) and metric (millimeters, centimeters, decimeters, meters, kilometers) units. Take some time this week to practice measuring in a variety ways with your child.

For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Skills…

P.7 Estimate Sums

U.4 Which Customary Unit of Length is Appropriate

U.13 Which Metric Unit of Length is Appropriate

Reading: The students have learned all about writing titles of books. As additional practice, please make sure that your child is the one entering in book titles on Reading Glue. It’s great reinforcement of those skills taught.

This week, the class is learning all about inferring and supporting with evidence. This week’s Parent Pipeline will show you ways to incorporate this skill into your regular reading routine.

Our small reading groups are just about to begin new books. Keep an eye on your e-mail account for a message from either myself or Mrs. Vazquez detailing which books you will need to purchase for your child by a specific date. pumpkins

Word Work: Our next spelling test will be on Friday. As you study at home, I suggest focusing on the sounds each word makes as well as the spelling pattern. Dictation sentences continue to incorporate words not featured on the spelling list. Students should be able to apply the skills learned to determine these. Remember to check the back side of your child’s spelling test to see how he or she is doing on this.

Vocabulary: The Unit 3 test will be this Friday, thus continuing the bi-weekly testing schedule from here on out. The students will be completing this independently, so take some time to review and practice the words at home. The Vocabulary Workshop site is an excellent resource. Instructions for access this can be found on the inside of your child’s planner.

Grammar: We will continue with Unit 2 (Nouns) with a quiz on Thursday. It will focus identifying noun(s) in sentences as well as distinguishing between common and proper nouns. Use the Grammar Workshop site for extra practice and reinforcement. It’s a great resource!

Science: Mr. Rzasa will be back for a very special lab on Thursday. The students are already eagerly looking forward to it.

Social Studies: We will finish our unit on landforms.

Religion: The Chapter 4 quiz is scheduled for Thursday. Click here for the study guide.

All the Best,

Ms. Espinosa
