Dear Third Grade Families,
At last, that final bit of summer heat has passed us and we are well into fall. This week promises to be a bit quieter as we continue to move forward in our schoolwork as well.
In math, we plan to spend the week wrapping up chapter 3. We will start the week with subtracting across zeroes, move into estimating with subtraction (rounding is back) and finally take our chapter test on Thursday morning.
Language Arts finds us wrapping up our study of 26 Fairmount Avenue. We will write our second book report/project in class this week as well as take a closer look at the collected works of the author, Tomie dePaola. On Thursday, we will take a short reading quiz on the book as well. Students are welcome to review the book at home if they’d like. Next week we will begin Bunnicula.
In science, we will move on to Chapter 7: Chemical Changes. We will spend this week studying the periodic table of elements!
For social studies, we will continue with our fabulous new Community Studies Weeklies now taking a closer look at where in the world our region is located, basic geography of California and geological features in the area.
Finally, in religion we are beginning to learn the Apostle’s Creed as well as study the Rosary. October is Rosary month and we will be learning all about, as well as practicing, this important prayer in the coming weeks.
Below is this week’s Reading Log and Spelling/Vocab words.
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
