Hello Second Grade Families,

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and with that comes the end of the first trimester. Time flies!!! This week and next will be focused on tying up loose ends, finishing chapters and assessing to set goals for trimester two. Here we go!

Math: Tuesday was all about group problem solving with the Unit 3 Open Response. Wednesday morning is our Unit test and after that, we pivot into Unit 4: Addition and Subtraction. If you would like to receive a copy of the Home Links at-home lesson-by-lesson study guides, please send me an e-mail and I’d be happy to send one with your child next week. They are not required and need not be turned in, but make for great support resources!

For IXL Math Homework this week, please complete the following skills:

Q.15 Read a calendar

R.3 Interpret Bar Graphs II

M.2 Place Value: Models up to hundreds

Reading: This week will be a review of basic non-fiction text features from first grade. We will discuss captions, headings and main ideas before jumping in to Unit 2: Informational Reading and Writing.

Writing: The students have finished their personal narratives and now look forward to celebrating their hard work and accomplishments. Next Wednesday we will do just that with our first Author’s Tea! At this time, students will have  the opportunity to share their work and read that of others while snacking on iced tea, lemonade and maybe even a cookie or two. Yippee!

Word Work: Since both this week and next will be short, our spelling words will span the two. Rather than testing on Friday, we will test on this week’s words next Wednesday.

Science: Although this week we will wrap up our study of plant life cycles, our studies continue through the garden. It is such a pleasure seeing our class learn in real time with hands-on experiences, so we will make still make our way out there as our bounty slowly makes its way to the table. Next week  we will also be taking home our (very tall) sunflowers, so make sure to find a spot in the yard for these beauties.

Have a great week!

All the best,

Ms. Espinosa
