I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend celebrating Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day. Here is a peek at what second grade is doing this week.

Reading Log Wk 17 – Please read a minimum of 20 minutes daily with the goal of having read 100 or more minutes for the week.


A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS


READING:  We continue learning how to become nonfiction experts by seeing how information is connected across similar books.

PHONICS: We are learning about the ending -tion, and we celebrate how using our phonics knowledge makes a difference in our reading and writing.

SPELLING: We began new sorts today and will work with them for the next two weeks. Spelling tests will be on Friday, February 26.

MATH: We started a new unit this week and are using our different addition strategies to solve addition problems involving three or more addends. We are also learning to how to use comparison diagrams to solve comparison number stories.

RELIGION: In Chapter 15, we learn that Jesus is the living bread that gives us God’s life and love. We will also be learning about the season of Lent.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: We continue writing opinions about our favorite books as we gather more evidence to support each of our opinions.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We are learning about timelines and will be creating our own timelines.

SCIENCE: We are learning how new materials are invented.
