Dear Third Grade Families,
Just a reminder that Monday is Veteran’s Day. School will not be in session as it is a holiday. Enjoy the long weekend.
This week we’ll be studying the following:
Math: The class will continue with Unit 3 covering lessons 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7. Since our math lessons are becoming increasingly challenging, I highly recommend following along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.
For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade Review skills:
Grade 3 IXL Math: R.7 Perimeter
Grade 3 IXL Math: R.8 Perimeter: Find the missing side length
Grade 3 IXL Math: Q.4 Compare & count customary units of length
Spelling: Click here to download this week’s spelling words and pattern/principle.
Vocabulary: This week we continue Unit 6. The words, definitions and practice exercises are available at the Vocabulary Workshop website. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.
Reading: The class will continue our second novel, Sarah, Plain and Tall, with an emphasis on monitoring and clarifying as we read. Good readers periodically stop and check for understanding. As you read together, stop from time to time and ask your child to summarize what has happened in the story thus far. Retells are a great way to show reading comprehension.

English: The class will review subjects and predicates from Unit 1 this week.
Science: In class we will continue Chapter 8, Lesson 1: Forms of Energy. To kick off the chapter, our lab will focus on solar energy by making a solar heater out of a pizza box!
Social Studies: We will learn about “Early Californian’s Beliefs.”
Religion: In the spirit of All Saint’s Day, we will begin Chapter 3, “We are God’s Holy People,” with the story of Sts. Francis and Claire.
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
