Dear Third Grade Families,
Merry Christmas! In this final week before the holiday break, we will be working on many seasonal crafts and activities. In fact, we’ve already started with our gifts for parents! (Shhhhh. It’s a surprise.)
Wednesday night is the SHS Christmas program. Although only primary grades will be performing, all families are welcome to attend.
Thursday we will be joining our former buddies (now 8th graders) in order to make a Christmas tree craft. This should be a lot of fun.
Instead of visiting the library on Thursday, we will be going on Friday this week. Please remind your son or daughter to bring any library books that are currently checked out. This will give students the opportunity to check out new ones to enjoy over the vacation.
Friday we will attend 8:30 mass in the morning and ending the day with our classroom Christmas party! We will be decorating cookies and washing them down with milk. Delish!
Friday is also a free dress day. If you have questions, please see the uniform guidelines at https://www.sacredheartschoolventura.org/our-school/uniform.
It was a pleasure meeting with all of you last week during parent-teacher conferences. Teaching is a team effort and your hard work is much appreciated. As the year marches forward, keep in mind that I can always be reached via e-mail at thirdgrade@sacredheartschoolventura.org, as well as most days before and after school.
Finally, in terms of classroom work, we will be studying the following:
Language Arts: We will read The Farolitos of Christmas, study Spelling Unit 15 (vowel + /r/ words), practice our cursive, finish publishing in Writer’s Workshop, and continue our work on adjectives.
Math: Multiplication focusing on multiplying with 1, 0, 3 and 4 as well as using a “pictograph.”
Science: Telescopes, cont.
Social Studies: complete Unit 1
Religion: Advent and Christmas activities
Finally, the Christmas vacation is also a great time to take another look at your child’s school uniform and make adjustments as needed. Over the first trimester, many have been worn down and are in need of mending or replacement.
Again, have a great vacation and I’ll see you next year!
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
