Hello Second Grade Families,

Spring is almost here! The grass is green, the birds are chirping and Lent is upon us. This week we begin the run-up to many celebrations and special events, so keep a close on the school calendar.

Math: In math, we begin volume two of the math book starting with Unit 7: Patterns and Rules. The students will work on patterns in counting as well as extending complements of 10 before applying our mental arithmetic skills in a (math) basketball game.

For IXL homework this week, please complete the following second grade skills:

E.22 Identify repeated addition in arrays: sums to 10

E. 23 Write addition sentences for arrays: sums to 10

E.24 Identify repeated addition in arrays: sums to 25

E. 25 Write addition sentences for arrays: sums to 25

Word Work: This week’s spelling words went home on Tuesday. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.

Reader’s Workshop: We will continue with this stretch of the unit on literary language with lessons on understanding comparisons and noticing when authors play with words.

As a reminder, this week’s reading log is the same as last week’s March Madness Reading Bingo!

Writer’s Workshop & Science: We continue with our unit on lab reports and science books, now beginning to write our information books. We will spend some time drawing on all we know to rehearse and plan for information books before beginning drafting next week.

Religion: After week of preparation, Wednesday afternoon we will head over to the church to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We look forward to seeing you at 1:30.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
