Hello Second Grade Families,
This is a bit of an usual week. We have PE on Monday and Tuesday followed by music on Wednesday and Thursday. So no need for PE uniforms for the second half of our week.
Congratulations are in order for Isabella, the primary level winner of this year’s Palmisano Essay Scholarship. Bravo!!!
In class, we are busy as ever. See below for our plans:
Math: We will continue with Unit 7: Patterns and Rules as we learn about doubling and halving, as well as weights and equal sharing.
For IXL Math homework this week, please complete the following skills:
D.4 Complete a repeating pattern
D.6 Find the next row in a growing pattern
Y.5 Write multiplication sentences for arrays
Word Work: New words went home on Monday. Please visit spellingcity.com to access your child’s sort. Our next spelling test will be on Friday.
Reading: We will continue with our study of literary language, first by noticing when authors play with words. Then, we will spend a little bit of time on idioms before we practice reading as writers, focusing on special language.
Our March Madess reading log Bingo continues!
Finally, dates and guidelines for our annual speech contest have been e-mailed and our class is gobbling down poems, as we bring the poetry contest together with our study of literary language.
Writing: The students have begun drafting the first chapters of their informational books. We will continue with this in class as well while creating our individual craft tables of contents. Our next step will be to study mentor texts for scientific informational additions.
Science: At this juncture, we now split off into a science unit that is separate from the writing we have been doing. This week, we will begin a short unit on Weather & Climate! Our first lesson will be on where clouds come from.
Religion: We continue to prepare for First Communion!!!
Have a great week!
