Dear Third Grade Families,
You may have noticed that the Sacred Heart playground is looking a little cleaner. Our class has gone out two times now to pick up small scraps and wrappers about ten minutes before recess. The students wore gloves and worked in teams. I am very proud of our class for taking this up for Lent. It has given us a greater sense of ownership over our playground and a sense of pride in making Sacred Heart an even better place to be.
Congratulations are in order for Siobhan and Raquel! Wednesday morning they will be celebrating their first reconciliation and will soon be making their first communion. Wednesday afternoon, our class will attend Stations of the Cross. You are welcome to attend should your schedule permit.
Friday is a full day with “families” in the afternoon.
Below is a general overview of our studies for this week:
Language Arts: Spelling – Base words ending in the letter “y.” Language – We are all done with our unit on personal narratives and descriptive writing! Next, paragraphing. Reading – We will continue our Beverly Cleary unit with an interview with Ms. Cleary as we read a variety of her books in small groups. In vocabulary, we will study words on illness. Timely, I know.
Math: We continue our chapter on measurement reviewing length and capacity and moving into weight (pounds vs. ounces) as well as temperature (degrees Fahrenheit). We will have a quiz on customary units of measure on Friday.
Science: Life Science – The class will learn about biomes with a focus on forests and grasslands. We will learn about animals to be found in each as well as their physical and behavioral adaptations that help them survive.
Social Studies: We will begin a chapter on local city governments in discovering how people make communities good places to live.
Religion: The class will continue our unit on forgiveness and reconciliation with Chapter 22, “God Blesses Contrite Hearts.”
Reminder: Please return report card envelopes as soon as possible so that they can be used again for Trimester 3.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Espinosa
