Hello Third Grade Families,
It promises to be a busy week.
Math: We will continue with Unit 7: Multiplication and Division. The students will be introduced to the use of parentheses and the order of operation as well as how to solve for extended facts (5 x 50, 200 x 400, 3,000 x 6, etc.). Keep studying those multiplication and division facts.
IXL Homework:
N.2 Understanding Parentheses (try for 25 minutes and then feel free to stop)
G.20 Squares up to 10 x 10
H.1 Multiply by a Multiple of 10
Reading: This week’s reading strategy is all about finding and reading “good fit” books. This is especially important for students when they encounter large selections of texts, whether it be in a bookstore or library. Our goal is for students to be able to self-select books, regardless of whether a guided reading level is clearly identified. Students should be able to tell which books are too easy, too difficult and just right. Click here for the Parent Pipeline.
Homework: 100 minutes (minimum) read & logged on Reading Glue. Over the course of Trimester 2, our class read 42,001 minutes! Yes, we are readers.

Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Monday.
Writer’s Workshop: We will complete our unit on Informational Writing this week by taking a closer look at the writing “checklist” (rubric) and evaluating what needs to be revised before turning work in. All informational writing will be due on Friday.
Grammar: The Unit 3 Test (all about verbs) is scheduled for Wednesday. For review, I suggest logging on to Grammar Workshop’s website and taking advantage of some of the resources available.
Science: Making our departure from the solar system, we move on this week to a new unit: Organisms of Long Ago!
Social Studies: Now that we have completed our unit on the Chumash, we will begin to learn all about government and citizenship.
Religion: This week is all about the Stations of the Cross as we work through Chapter 15: Jesus Suffered and Died for Us.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
