Hello Third Grade Families,

Just yesterday on the farm, our class broke out in spontaneous song! This tells me one thing: ’tis the season for music. The intermediate grades spring musical is well underway and in production. Our class is scheduled to take the stage on Wednesday night and I must say, the students are pretty adorable! Please see Mr. H’s e-mail for details. If you have any questions or concerns, he can be reached at music@sacredheartschoolventura.org.

Math: We have begun learning all about fractions and Unit 8 begins with fractional parts of a group. This skill can be challenging for many students, so I would suggest pacing yourself with the math homework this week. Use counters to help, or even draw it out. This is the first of many skills that is made much easier by knowing your multiplication and division facts, so keep practicing those as well.

Language Arts:

~Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Remember to study the pattern/principle as there will be a test on Friday.

~Writing: We continue to practice writing quick drafts in our unit on persuasive writing. Building stamina as writers has been our focus of late.

~Poetry: Class recitations will take place Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Students signed up for their preferred date earlier in the week. Finalists will be announced in class on Thursday so that there is plenty of time to practice for recitations before the judges.

~Grammar: This week is all about Linking Verbs, Main Verbs and Helping Verbs. As a reminder, the goal of grammar instruction is for students to internalize these skills and apply them to their own writing. Thus, writer’s workshop is the place where students are expected to show their mastery of grammar.

Social Studies: Our second field trip is scheduled and on the books! On the morning of May 7th we will heading out to the Chumash Indian Museum in Thousand Oaks. More information is to come, but for now please mark your calendars.

Religion: We will wrap up Chapter 16: “Jesus is Risen” this week.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
