Dearest Third Grade Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the break, taking some time to rest and relax among family and friends. Upon our return, the students couldn’t help but notice that we have exactly two months remaining in the school year. With that in mind, the coming weeks are sure to be action packed!
Field Trip permission slip are going home on Tuesday. Check your child’s homework folder.
Math: We will complete Unit 7 this week with a test on Thursday. Continue practicing to solve for extended facts in both multiplication (5 x 50, 200 x 400, 3,000 x 6, etc.) as well as division (540/90, 6,400/80, 5,600/700).

Reading: This month we will celebrate Read Across America with several weekly activities and even a school-wide raffle! Students in third grade will receive a ticket when any time they are caught reading.
In Reader’s Workshop, we will expand upon our questions of what a character is like and begin to develop theories about Opal from Because of Winn-Dixie.
Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.
Writer’s Workshop: This week we begin our final genre: persuasive writing. We will generate and choose between different different ideas for changes we’d like to see in our communities.
Grammar: We continue our unit on Verbs with Past-Tense Verbs (lesson 18) and Future-Tense Verbs (Lesson 19) as well as Linking Verbs (Lesson 20).
Social Studies: The class will continue our study of the Chumash people with a closer look at several native legends.
Religion: Now that Easter has come, we will begin Chapter 16: Jesus has Risen!
