Third grade families,

We have reached December! We have lot of exciting things coming up!

Important Dates:

12/5: Teddy Bear Day! Fr. Terry will be coming to our campus to collect all of our donated stuffed animals and will take them over to our Adopt-A-Family friends! If you have not yet brought one, please bring one in tomorrow!

12/7: Noon-dismissal!

With the holidays coming up, SHS loves to give back to their communities…

Our Girl Scout Troop is collecting gently worn jackets/coats for local children in need.  If you happen to find any that you would like to donate to ones who need them, please bring them in by December 13th.

Beginning December 10th, we will begin our annual food drive to help feed local families in need.  If you’d like, starting on that date, please bring in any non-perishable food to donate.

Homework this week:

  • IXL math: FF.4, FF.7, FF.9 & FF.12
  • 100 minutes of reading/week
  • fluency

Sneak peek to our academic week:

Math: This week we will wrap up our Unit 3 on measurement! We will learn about circumference and diameter next. Our unit 3 Math test is scheduled for this Thursday.

Reading: I am so proud of all of the hard work our class has done with their non-fiction texts. This week we continue to approach our non-fiction reading as a learner and continue reading for significance. As we read, we continue to find places in our books that are worth stopping, thinking, talking, and jotting.  In order to organize our reading it is good to stop and jot things down when you learn new information, see a strong image, burst with curiosity, or even come to the end of a section!

Writing: This week in writing we will work on writing letters to Santa! As we write our letter to him, we will pay close attention to how we format a letter, making sure our punctuation is correct, and double check our spelling!  We want to show Santa all the great things we know about writing a letter.

Spelling: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner.  As a reminder, our class is put into differentiated spelling groups based off of word patterns. We are all studying different words and word patterns.  A good resource to use when practicing spelling words is www.spellingcity.com.  Our spelling tests are scheduled for this Friday, but with school-wide centers on Friday, some tests may be taken on Monday.

Grammar: We have wrapped up Unit 6 and will be taking a grammar test this Wednesday.

Religion: This week is all about Advent, focusing on our chosen act of kindness for this week! By working to be great, compassionate, and kind people we are gifting Jesus.

Have a wonderful rest of your week,

Miss Poindexter
