Hello Second Grade Families,
Congratulations again to all of our first communicants. Every student did an amazing job, and seeing it all put together was something else all together! Many thanks for all of your support. The students are already eagerly looking forward to Friday’s school mass.
Congrats are also in order to our five finalists for this year’s poetry contest: Roman, Khloe, Connor, Peyton and Leila. Bravo!!!
This week in class, we plan to work on the following…
Math: We will begin Unit 8: Fractions with a review of vocabulary, skills and concepts introduced in first grade including: numerators, denominators, and fractions of a group.
For IXL Homework this week, please complete the following second grade skills:
W.5 Halves, thirds and fourths
W.6 Identify the fraction
W.7 Which shape illustrates the fraction?
W.12 Compare fractions using models
Reading: In Reader’s Workshop, we will do some self-assessing and setting goals before organizing reading clubs!
Writer’s Workshop: We will spend the end of this week and early next on using comparisons to teach readers before getting into writing introductions and conclusions.
Word Work: The students started their new sorts on Monday. Word lists can be accessed through Spellingcity.com. Our next test is scheduled for Friday.
Science: This week we will continue with our unit on water and weather with a lesson on the work of water. We will answer the question, if you floated down a river where would you end up?
