Dear Third Grade Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter with friends and family.
Our class is off to a running start with many activities on the horizon. Please work with your child at home to practice reciting his/her poem from memory before the school poetry contest. Next Tuesday we will begin classroom recitations. Five finalists will then be selected to move on to the school-wide contest. Best of luck!
Next Friday is the school Jog-a-Thon. Please remember to turn in your envelopes as soon as possible. This year, parents are invited and encouraged to jog along with their children, too!
In more news, our class has scheduled a field trip to the Santa Barbara Sea Center for Tuesday, May 1st. This will be fantastic connection with our studies of aquatic habitats in science. Permission slips will go home next week.
This week, we will be studying the following:
Math: measurement continued. We will work on temperature in degrees Celsius, metric units of capacity (L, mL) and problem solving.
Language Arts: We will continue with our Beverly Cleary unit reading “Otis’s Scientific Experiment.” Suffixes will be the topic of both our grammar and spelling lessons.
Science: We will take a closer look at the tundra as well as desert biomes. We will also study aquatic habitats.
Social Studies: Unit 5 continues with “Rules and Laws in a Community.”
Religion: We will begin our “Family Life” series focusing first on “God’s Gift of Family.” We will gain a greater appreciation for family as a person’s first community as well as an awareness that healthy families provide social and spiritual meaning for all members.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Espinosa
