Dear Third Grade Families,

This week promises to zoom by as Thursday is a noon dismissal day and Friday begins our Easter break. Our class eagerly looks forward to the holiday!

Congratulations are in order for our five classroom finalists in the speech contest. All of the third grade students sounded fantastic reciting their poems for the class last week, but these were the best of the best. This group of five competed this afternoon before a panel of judges for the 2nd/3rd grade prize and as of this moment, our class eagerly awaits the results. We are certain that all of our entries were so good that they just couldn’t decide.

In more news, Wednesday is Jeans for Japan Day. Just like before, students who choose to wear jeans on this day should bring $1 (or more). Money collected will go directly toward relief efforts in Japan. Continuing with this theme of Japan, last Wednesday we also had our Japanese calligraphy class, which was a hit! Students learned how to handle the bamboo brushes, basic stroke techniques and even how to paint characters on rice paper. Student masterpieces are currently on display in our class.

Although last Wednesday was the final Stations of the Cross, this Wednesday morning we will be going to mass at 8:30. All families are welcome, as always.

During the Spring Break, there will be no homework. However, I would highly recommend that those students who have not met all 8 math facts goals work on them during the time off. 15 minutes a day in the car, at the breakfast table or before going to bed is enough. As for those who are done, I would suggest continuing to practice so that these important facts are not forgotten.

Have a great Easter vacation!!!

Mrs. Espinosa
