Hello Third Grade Families,

Bookended by a field trip and the Jog-a-thon, this is sure to be quite a week! The students had a fantastic time at the Chumash Indian Museum yesterday. It was a beautiful day on the trails and we even got to make a special craft. Looking forward, don’t forget to turn in your jog-a-thon envelopes. It’s not too late to turn in requests for posters and shout-outs too. Hope to see you on the field Friday!

Math: We have finished our chapter on fractions, but I would never say that our work is entirely done. As we move on, please take time to review fraction skills and concepts with your child. Fractional parts of a group and mixed numbers/improper fractions often require more practice in order to stick.

In our next unit, the students will return to multiplication and division again. This time around, we will work with larger numbers starting with multiples of 10,100 and 1,000.

IXL Math Homework:

W.18 Fractions of a whole ~ Modeling word problems

W.22 Word Names for Mixed Numbers

W.19 Fractions of a Whole ~ Word Problems

Reading: The class was overjoyed to read the new books in our classroom library. Let’s keep the excitement going, as we use theories about characters to make informed predictions.

Word Work: With all the excitement of the jog-a-thon, this week’s spelling test will be moved to Monday.

Science: We will continue to make our way through Chapter 6 with a quick review of the states of matter before learning about how heat changes matter.

Religion: This week, we begin Chapter 18: Jesus gives the spirit to the church. We will learn all about the Holy Spirit .

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
