Congratulations! We survived our first full week of school! We are really getting into the swing of things now. This week should be a busy one as we continue to establish our daily classroom and homework routines and procedures.

In class this week, we’ll be studying the following:

Math: Unit 1 Lessons 1.4-1.6. We continue to review key content. Follow along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. While the Home Links are excellent support materials, keep in mind that this is not the math homework (yet). Feel free to do these as math enrichment, but do not feel obligated to do so. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

This week, we will begin using IXL.com for homework. Please complete following Third Grade skills:

O.1 Read Clocks and Tell Time

Q.3 Which Customary Unit is Appropriate

P.4 Interpret Bar Graphs

Reading: We will begin our first book The Stories Julian Tells in class. Please make sure your child has a copy. I will give you plenty of notice when it is time to bring in the second.  We will begin with a character study of our main character, Julian.

Vocabulary: Unit 1 words are available at the Vocabulary Workshop (Level Green) website. Your child’s username and password are in his/her planner. We will have our first test on Friday.

English: We will continue with Unit 1 in our Grammar books, “Sentences.” We plan to focus on kinds of sentences including statements, questions, commands and exclamations!

Science: We begin visiting the science lab this week. In class, we will focus on Chapter 6, Lesson 1 “Matter.”

Social Studies: We will begin using our Social Studies Weekly readers! My plan is to create a username and password in order for students to access these from home online, too.

Religion: We continue with Chapter 1, “God Calls Us,” learning the stories of Ruth and Abram. Attached is a “Study Guide” for you to follow along with at home. Click here to download the Chapter 1 Study Guide. We will have our first Religion quiz next week.
