Congratulations! We survived our first full week of school! We are really in the swing of things now.
This week should be a busy one. For starters, we’ll begin our first spelling unit. Students in third grade have a list of 18 spelling words and some vocabulary every week with a test on Friday morning. Please make it a point to study these every night as it is part of your weekly homework. After every six units, there will be a review unit with 25 words. These will all be words that students have seen before so there are no surprises.
Just like last week, homework will be due on Friday. This is a pattern we follow every week. Please remind your children to turn this in along with the homework folder. Next week we will begin taking home Accelerated Math as well. You’ll hear more about this at Back to School night.
Next week, we will begin Patricia Polocco’s The Keeping Quilt. Please be sure your child has brought in a copy of the book to class by Friday so (s)he is prepared to join us in the reading and related activities.
In class this week, we’ll be studying the following:
Math: place value to the hundred thousands with our first math quiz on Thursday.
Spelling: short vowels
Literature: review of comprehension skills
English: begin lower case cursive review
Science: physical characteristics of matter
Social Studies: landforms
Religion: gifts God has given us
The students have been doing an outstanding job learning the routines and procedures of the classroom. Keep up the good work! Also, several students have already made it to “Outstanding” on the class behavior chart! BRAVO!
I look forward to seeing the third grade parents at Back-to-School night this Wednesday at 6:30pm.
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
