Dear Third Grade Families,

What a beautiful Saints Parade this past Friday! Congratulations to the many third grade siblings who participated in the morning’s events. Our class greatly enjoyed watching, learning and cheering on our primary friends.

This week we will continue our study of time in math. We will focus on telling time to the minute and problem solving using a timeline crossing the AM and PM hours. This should be especially fun given daylight savings! Please continue to practice reading an analog clock with your child at home.

In language arts, we will begin spelling unit 11: various spellings of the /ô/ sound. In vocabulary, we will focus on words pertaining to finding a lost pet. Writer’s Workshop finds us revising our friendly letters focusing on making sure our letters include an introduction followed by a detailed description of our ideas and finally a closing sentence or two. In English, we will begin our study of adjectives beginning with words to describe ourselves.

We will begin Unit II in Religion, “God Is Great and Good.” Our first chapter in this unit begins with an introduction of the Apostle’s Creed. Please take a moment this week to practice saying this prayer with our child at home.

In science, we will continue to learn about chemical changes and properties. We will be comparing examples physical changes to chemical changes.

Finally, in social studies, we will continue our study of important resources in communities. We will learn how resources are acquired and a community’s needs are met.

On Thursday we will be going to the library. Please remind your child to bring his/her books so that new ones may be checked out or last week’s books renewed.

As a reminder, this Friday is Veteran’s Day and school will not be in session. Enjoy the long weekend.

Best,

Mrs. Espinosa
