Dear Third Grade Parents and Families,
This week we have many happenings in the 3rd grade. First thing Monday morning, we will have our second in a series of Advent assemblies. As a school, we will meet in the hall and light the next candle of the Advent wreath. Last week we reviewed the Jesse Tree. This week, we eagerly await what is in store for us. This is also the feast day of St. Nicholas! In the afternoon, we will be carefully crafting our letters to St. Nick making sure that the formatting is in line with our Friendly Letter writing standard. You can expect to receive them in next week’s Tuesday Work Packets. This gives Santa plenty of time to get ready.
This Tuesday, you will be receiving your child’s Report Card for Trimester 1. Please review it in preparation for Parent Conferences later in the week. They will come in an envelope with a line for your signature. Please sign and return this as soon as possible as it is my confirmation that your child’s Report was received. On this same day, we will be celebrating Teddy Bear Day. Please remember to send your child with a new Teddy Bear to school so that we may present them at our school-wide assembly. All bears will be donated to the Adopt-a-Family program for the holidays.
Wednesday-Friday will be 11:30 dismissal days due to parent conferences. If you have not already, please review your scheduled time. If this does not work for you, you will need to contact Michelle in the Office as soon as possible so that she may reschedule you. Conferences are 15 minutes each and cover a lot of material. Please show up to your conference on time (if not a couple of minutes early) so that we may make the most of it. I will post the conference schedule outside our classroom each day.
Finally, a word on uniforms. With the days getting colder, many students have been coming to school bundled up in jackets, scarves and hats in the morning. As a reminder, all of these items must come from Proforma (our school uniform company) and have the Sacred Heart School logo on them. Students wearing hats, scarves, jackets, sweaters, etc. without our school logo will be asked to take them off until the end of the day. Likewise, all headbands must be very conservative in style. Our school policy states that they must be a solid color or the school uniform plaid. Although many of our girls have beautiful headbands adorned with flowers and a variety of oversized bows, I’m afraid that they do not conform to our uniform code and so students will be asked to take these off as well.
Lastly, this week we will be taking a look into our pencil boxes and seeing which of your child’s school supplies need to be replenished. While we all have more than enough folders, binders, pencils and book covers, many students have either used up for lost all of their crayons, markers, colored pencils, scissors, highlighters, dry erase markers and white board erasers. Likewise, many pencil boxes have not stood the test of time and are now broken as evidenced by our collection of detached lids often found on the classroom floor. Please take a moment this week to speak with your child about his or her supplies. The New Year is a time for new beginnings and it is my hope that we can start 2011 with a full box of supplies.
