Sneak Peek of our Academic Week

math: This week in Unit 2, we will learn different addition and subtraction strategies with 2 + 3-digit numbers. This week we will learn the partial-sums method (for addition) and the trade-first method (for subtraction). These methods are different from the re-grouping methods we all know so well. As mathematicians, it’s always good to have different strategies in our tool box!

reading: In our class read aloud, Charlotte’s Web and in our small reading groups, we will work on re-telling. When re-telling, we don’t want to give every single detail. We want to weed out the small details and only incorporate the big + important events when giving a re-tell.

writing: We continue working on our personal narratives and making sure we develop our leads in the best way possible.

word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be! Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week!

grammar: This week we will focus all on irregular plural nouns. Irregular plural nouns don’t follow the rules of regular plural nouns. In our interactive journals, we will work on identifying these.

religion: We continue with The Apostles Creed this week. This week we will break down the prayer into parts and work on analyzing each section. We will continue to practice this prayer until memorization, too!
We will be attending 8:30a mass this Friday! Please come join us if your schedule allows!

science: This week is all about the Plant Life Cycle and we will explore the question, why do leaves change color in the fall? We will discover how and why some tree leaves change color when the weather starts to get colder.

Have a great week!
