Welcome to the third grade! This is your child’s first year in the Intermediate grades and as I’m sure you’ll see, there is much to look forward to.

Before Back-to-School night, I just wanted to fill you in on some basics:

Homework goes out in a packet every Monday and is due every Friday. The only exception is Accelerated Math, which your child will begin here in the classroom and then take home starting in September. I like to structure homework in this way because it allows me time to teach the class the routines of the program while evaluating what each student can do without the help of a parent. You will learn more about this at Back To School Night.

I will begin sending home a Reading Log the first full week of school for homework and we will begin our spelling series the second full week (our books are currently on back order but should be here very soon). Other supplementary homework assignments will occasionally be assigned as needed.

I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. E-mail is by far the best way to reach me (thirdgrade@sacredheartventura.org).  I will also be posting a newsletter each week here on our school website to update you on what we have been doing in class as well as things that are up and coming. For individual concerns, I will contact you either by phone, a note home, or e-mail (if an e-mail address is provided on the parent roster that our Room Moms will be putting together soon).

Please feel free to participate in your child’s third grade year as much as your schedule permits. Helping hands are always needed. Whether it be helping out at lunchtime on the field or taking work home with you, your presence is sure to enrich your child’s experiences.
