Third grade families,

We are reaching the end of February! Time is flying by in third grade…this Friday marks the end of our second trimester.

We have a full academic week planned up ahead.

Important Dates:

  • Friday, March 1stis a half day and school wide centers

Homework this week:

  • 100 minutes of reading and logged
  • Fluency
  • IXL math: A.1, F.10, J.3

A sneak peek to our academic week:

Math: We continue with Unit 5, learning all about place value up to the millions place, working with ordering those very large numbers. We then will touch on mean, median, mode, and range.

Reading: This week we will wrap up our narrative non-fiction units! We will spend our time bringing our reading lenses to broader range of texts. We will learn that readers use what they know about understanding fictional characters when they are reading nonfiction.

Writing: This week in our informational writing, we will continue to work on balancing facts and ideas. Writers need to always make sure to not just state facts and information in their writing, they also need to show enthusiasm for those facts! Readers want the writer’s responses to information.

Spelling: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner and on spelling city.com. Spelling tests are scheduled for this Friday.

Science: We have had so much fun on our science unit on fossils. This week we will discuss the idea that many extinct animals resemble animals that are alive today, and scientists use that information to figure out what those extinct animals may have once looked like.

Religion: This week in religion is all about Pope Francis!

Have a great week,

Miss Poindexter
