Dear Second Grade Parents,

It was great to see everyone who attended Back-To-School.   Last week, we were able to review lots of rules and begin our groups.  This week we are starting our math groups & reading groups.  We are still going over classroom expectations with behavior and procedures.  We have another busy week ahead of us.

Our Academic Week:

Click below to print out homework:  If you have any difficulties, please let me know via email.

Click on Homework:  You will be able to print homework out at home.  I will be using the same reading log for the next three weeks so you may print them out ahead of time.  I will be adding fluency homework beginning on Sept. 3rd.

Religion: We will finish our Family Life, Unit 1 :  God’s Gift of Family; God’s plan and Rules and choices

Language Arts: More short vowels in spelling and phonics, identifying a sentence, reading for comprehension, fluency and homophones.

Click here to go directly to Spelling Unit 2; review with spelling city. Review words with short o, e, u

Look on spelling city to get your child’s spelling list or look in their planner.  Spelling Test will be on Thursday.

Reading: We will finish our story map on Swimmy.  We will review consonants, vowels, consonant blends and digraphs.  We will begin our Theme 1: Silly Stories next week.

Writing: We will continue writing in our journals.  Our focus is writing a topic sentence with three details and a closing statement.  Students will identify capitalization and punctuation after they finish writing.

Our read aloud from last week is Flat Stanley

Math: We are working on recognizing the value of money and counting money.   We will review skip counting, months of the year and adding.  Please practice the value of coins (nickel, dime, quarter, penny).

Science: We will continue discovering all the units we will be studying this year. J

Social Studies:  Where is the United States?

If you have any questions, please send me an email. 🙂

Have a Blessed Week,

Mrs. Vazquez
