FIRST GRADE NEWSLETTER
NOTE FROM MRS. VAZQUEZ:
I can’t believe we are ending our week in November.
We will attend Mass at 8:30 a.m. on Friday followed by the saint presentations and parade as it is our celebration of All Saints day! I hope to see many of you on Friday.
Remember to have a dress rehearsal at home with your child’s saint costume before Friday. They must be able to walk, sit, and kneel with their costumes. They must wear their P.E. uniform underneath their saint costume.
A reminder, our class will be using the first 7 pews on each side in church on Friday. Any questions, please send me an email.

A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS
Language Arts:
We began our new unit on WORD DETECTIVES for reading. What do you do with tricky words? Ask your child about our mission #1 and #2 and what Rasheed has done this week. It’s all about reading in 1st grade!
We are working on reading our environment. Please make sure to read signs as you are driving to school. Ask your child, how did they figure the word out?
In writing, we are making sure our word wall words are spelled correctly such as have, was, like, they and when. I continue to add new words to our word wall. We are practicing writing sentences using a capital letter to begin and adding a punctuation mark at the end.
Math: Counting nickels and pennies, skip counting, identifying nickels, dimes, and quarters. I will be sending a review for our unit test (DO NOT TURN IN with Homework next week). It should be used as a study sheet. The test will be next week on Thursday.

Science: We will be curious about pumpkins this week. 🙂
