I cannot believe it is December!  We have a busy month with our academics, Teddy Bear Donation Day, Primary Centers, Christmas Program, and preparing for Advent.

A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

Language Arts:

WORD DETECTIVES for reading:  We have been working on snap words (sight words).  We are practicing in identifying our snap words before reading a page.  This helps with reading  “smoothly” and reading in “bigger scoops”.   This week we will focus on the following (bold skills):

* Breaking longer words into smaller parts (get —ting)

*Pay attention to beginning of a word (string or chase)

*Break the ending off the word (jumps—jump…s)

*Looking for vowel pairs (ai, ee, ou, oo)

 

Phonics:  We are working on long a and short a words (silent e)

In writing, we begin our letters to Santa.  They must be delivered to the NORTH POLE by Friday. 🙂

Math: We are using a number line to add.  We are working on vocabulary words BEFORE and AFTER.  Example:  Which number comes before 25?

Religion: What is Advent?  Do we have seasons in our Church?

Science:  How can you send a secret message to someone far away?

Social Studies:  Land and Water Forms

REMINDERS

  • Tuesday and Thursday:  P.E.
  • Friday:  Primary Centers  If you are availabe to volunteer, please let me know.  I only have a few spaces available.
  • December 4th:  Progress Reports go out.  Conferences will be in January this year.
  • Tomorrow, December 5th is Teddy Bear day.  During your shopping this weekend, please be on a look out for Teddy Bears.  Every year at SHS, we donate small Teddy Bears to Adopt-A-Family.  Each child brings in a new teddy bear and on December 5th we have Monsignor come to our school and collect them.  Your child may bring in their Teddy Bear to donate on December 3rd.
  • December 18th Christmas Program at 6:00-7:00. 🙂
