Third grade families,

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend! A shorter week, and with Thanksgiving up ahead, we have a lot planned. 🙂

Important dates:

  • Tomorrow, 11/14 is the LAST day to pre-order Thanksgiving donuts.  They will be delivered to us on Friday, 11/16.
  • Thursday, 11/15 is library day.
  • Friday, 11/16 is a full day.

Homework this week:

  • Fluency
  • 100 minutes of reading/week
  • IXL math: BB.1, BB.17, & PP.1

**please keep a look out for a metric unit conversion page in your child’s homework folder to help with some of the IXL skills!

Sneak peek to our week:

Math: We continue on with unit 3. This week we will continue with practicing measurement using US customary units (inches, feet, yard, mile) as well as the metric system (millimeters, centimeters, decimeters, meters, kilometers).  Later in the week we will begin calculating perimeter and area with several different types of shapes!

Reading: We have been learning A LOT during our unit 2 of non-fiction reading! This week we continue to grasp main ideas in non-fiction texts by organizing our information into categories.  Some non-fiction books sub-categorize for us, and others do not! We will continue practicing skills to use when we stumble upon books that do not have sub-categories. Then, later into the week, we will be begin really looking into our books and becoming experts on specific topics, and will begin teaching others what we know and have learned.

Writing: This week we will continue using our editing checklists to polish up our writing as best as we can.

Grammar: This week we will finish up our unit on abbreviations. Abbreviating months, days of the week, titles of respect, and first and middle name initials.

Spelling: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner. Spelling tests are scheduled for next Monday, due to our short week. As a reminder, spellingcity.com is a great way to practice/study those words.

Religion: Our class has done an outstanding job of memorizing the St. Michael the Archangel prayer! This week in religion, we begin Chapter 4: God Called Mary. This week we will tell the story of The Annunciation, also naming ways that God sometimes calls us through messengers

Have a great week!
