Third grade families,

It has been so nice having the sun out! I hope you all enjoyed the 3-day weekend. As always, so much great things going on in third grade!

A few important reminders…

  • As report cards went home on Tuesday, please take the time to look them over. Please return the signed envelope to school by Friday. If you would like to schedule a conference, please shoot me an email. J
  • Next week, the RAYS science program from the Discovery Center will be paying us a visit! They have an exciting science lesson planned for us next Wednesday. In an envelope, please bring in $8.00 to help cover the cost of the program.
  • This Friday is a full day!

Homework this week:

  • IXL Math: J.5, F.12, AA.1
  • Fluency
  • 100 minutes of reading

Math: We are getting close to wrapping up Unit 5. To end our unit, we continue working with decimals! Decimals are a brand new concept to third graders and can sometimes be tricky. This week we are continuing to practice the place value of decimals, focusing on the tenth and hundredth places. We have been working a lot with our base ten blocks manipulative to help us visualize decimals. Our unit test will be taken at the end of next week.

Reading: This week we begin out Unit 3 on character studies!

Writing: This week we will begin our Unit 3 on opinion writing with a flash draft.

Spelling: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner and on spellingcity.com. Spelling tests will be this Friday.

Religion: This week we will have second grade in our thoughts as they prepare to make their Sacrament of First Reconciliation. This week we will spend a lot of time with special intentions, and reflecting on all things and people we send our prayers to.

Social Studies: This week we will learn about the three branches of government. We will work on identifying the leaders and roles associated with the three branches.

Have a wonderful week,

Miss Poindexter
