Third grade families,

Happy Catholic Schools Week! Each day of the week we will be celebrating very important groups of people that help shape our Catholic schools! Our MS departments are working hard to complete different games, activities, and assemblies for this week!

In honor of CSW, we will be holding our Warm Wear and Food Drive this week as well. If you’d like to donate warmwear and canned goods to those in need, you can place them in the red bins along the carline…such a wonderful gift to those who need it!

Sneak Peek of our Academic Week

math: This week we begin our new math unit, all about larger numbers! In this unit we will be working with, adding, subtracting, and comparing larger numbers up to the millions place. Later in the unit, we will begin working with decimals.

reading: In our whole class read-aloud, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, we will work on summarizing, visualizing, predicting, and putting ourselves in the shoes of the characters.

In our small, differentiated reading groups, we continue being challenged at our reading levels using novels, close reading, and fluency practice.

writing: We have worked hard studying and conducting further research on our informational reports. Now, we work on organizing all of our ideas into subtopics. Great non-fiction authors always work on organizing their thoughts and ideas into subtopics, this makes it easier for our readers to follow along.

word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be! Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week!

religion: This week we continue with studying The Ten Commandments. Each day we will spend time breaking down a commandment, thinking about, and reflecting on each one. How can we make sure to apply these commandments to our everyday lives?

We will be attending 8:30a mass this Friday. Please come join us if your schedule allows!

social studies: This week we will work together in our California Native American Indian research groups.

Each week, small groups collaborate and work together to read about, research, and learn about a specific CA Native American Indian tribe. Each group works together to study their lifestyles, jewelry, clothing, food, and shelter.

science: In science this week, we will learn how living in groups helps many animals survive, including wolves, meerkats, ravens, and ants!

A fun, busy week!

Have an awesome week!
