Sneak Peek of our Academic Week

math: This week we begin our new math unit on fractions! This week we will learn the basics of fractions to allow us to build a strong foundation for the upcoming weeks. We want to make sure we understand that a fraction is a part of a whole.

reading: In our class read-aloud, Because of Winn Dixie, and in our differentiated reading groups, we will be making real-life connections to our characters. This allows readers to think deeply and look at things from the character’s point of view. In our class read-aloud, Winn Dixie is missing! He is a sweet dog but has a pathological fear of thunderstorms. Thunderstorms began and Winn Dixie ran off! We will be helping the main character, Opal, look for her little companion by making Lost Dog posters. We will think deeply about Winn Dixie as a character and think, what can we include about him in our posters?

writing: In our opinion writing pieces, we will think about our audience and think about what their opposing opinions would be. In doing so, it allows us to write stronger and more convincing pieces.

word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be. Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week.

religion: All about the gift of grace! God shares the wondrous life of grace with us. Through grace we can live in God’s love and be happy with Him forever.

social studies: We will be working collaboratively in our study groups and construct our CA Native American Indian Tribe Dioramas!

science: All about our Earth in celebration of Earth Day! How can we demonstrate support for our enviornment?

Have a wonderful week!
