This week we will finish our second round of STAR testing. We will be participating in the Living Rosary on Wednesday at 2 p.m., and you are most welcome to join us in church if you are able. Friday is a half-day, with Intermediate Centers after recess. We have begun presales for Halloween tattoos, which will be distributed on Halloween. This is a fundraiser for the Adopt-a-Family program. Students may buy as many as they would like ($1 each), but may only have two applied at school. The rest will be sent home in an envelope with your child.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We continue chapter 6, which focuses on seeking forgiveness, particularly in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Math: We continue Unit 3, where the main focus is multiplication and division. Students have fact triangles, which they can use to study their basic multiplication facts, and we are also doing timed fact tests in class to build up proficiency. Students need to complete ixL Math skills D 1, 2, and 3 by next Monday.

Reading Workshop: It is important that your child be reading for 20-30 minutes each evening. Please sign the reading log for any reading done at home. Click here for the reading log. readinglog

Reading Fluency: Students should complete fluency homework #10. This will be due next Monday.

Writer’s Workshop: This week we continue revisions of our stories, re-reading them with a critical eye, and most of us will be ready to edit the stories for paragraphing, spelling and punctuation by next week. We are also writing Halloween haikus.

Spelling: We have started Unit 9; the test will be on Friday.

Vocabulary: We continue our study of Unit 5 words. The test will be on Friday.

Grammar: We continue our study of nouns.

Social Studies: We are now learning about the early Native Americans living in California. Some students have not handed in their three pages of work on the California regions; these papers are due by Friday.

Science: Chapter 2 focuses upon interactions of organisms within an ecosystem.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
