Dear 4th Grade Families,

A season of thankfulness is upon us!

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!

  • Wednesday, November 15: Free Dress (Sports Day) with donations going to Adopt-a-Family
  • Friday, November 17: Fall Showcase! 2pm Dismissal (more details in family envelope)
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: PE! Please have students wear appropriate shoes and their PE uniforms.
  • Tuesdays: Library Day! Our class will visit the library every Tuesday afternoon to “check out” and read books. Students are able to take 2 books/week and can return and re-check out new books each week. ***This week we will go to the library on Wednesday as Tuesday is filled with other activities***
  • Math: In math, we study open sentences and the uses of parentheses. Students will practice solving for variables. This week, we take our Chapter test.
  • Reading: We wrap up the Tiger Rising with character analysis, soap carving, and a movie/book review.
  • Writing: Students work on revising a final piece of writing for our Personal Narratives unit.
  • Grammar: Unit 1 review! We’ve studied 7 different parts of speech so far and will now work on identifying them within sentences.
  • Religion: We review our 1st unit all about the ways we come to know about God: creation, Scriptures, Jesus, and Church. This week, we will take our test and do a short research project about saints.
  • Science: This week, we start our learning about The Birth of Rocks.
  • Social Studies: We wrap up our learning about the diverse cultures of California Natives and study some of the European explorers who journeyed over this way.
  • Reading Response Journal: around 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
    • Nonfiction: For homework, students will read and respond according to the menu for nonfiction texts.
      • Students are still welcome to read fiction, but the response journal will be focused on nonfiction.
  • IXL: (Students do not need to reach 100%. Please encourage your students to do their best, but 100% is not required)

Let’s have a great week,

Ms. Schmaeling
