Dear 4th Grade Families,
Here we are in the 2nd Trimester! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!
Important Dates and Reminders:
- Tuesday, November 28: Toppers Pizza Place school fundraiser from 3:30-9:00p (Ventura Main Street location)
- Friday, December 1: 12pm Dismissal
- Tuesday, December 5: 1st Trimester Report Cards are delivered
- Tuesdays and Thursdays: PE! Please have students wear appropriate shoes and their PE uniforms.
- Tuesdays: Library Day! Our class will visit the library every Tuesday afternoon to “check out” and read books. Students are able to take 2 books/week and can return and re-check out new books each week.
Our Learning:
- Math: In math, we focus on factors and multiples. Students use this information to then categorize numbers as either prime or composite. Soon, we move into our study of decimals.
- Reading: Nonfiction text features and structures
- Writing: Opinion! Students will begin learning what an opinion piece should look like and how to get started writing one of their own.
- Grammar: Review continued! As we’ve had a break, we continue to review the grammar skills we have learned so far.
- Religion: We Are Called to Follow Jesus – We learn about how we can pray, sacrifice, and help.
- Science: Could a volcano pop up where we live?
- Social Studies: European explorers of California
Homework: DUE DECEMBER 5
- Reading Response Journal: around 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
- Nonfiction: For homework, students will read and respond according to the menu for nonfiction texts.
- Students are still welcome to read fiction, but the response journal will be focused on nonfiction.

- IXL: (Students do not need to reach 100%. Please encourage your students to do their best, but 100% is not required)
