Dear 4th Grade Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s. This week, we’re easing back to our routine and having conferences to set up some goals for this next chunk of the year. You’ll see some of our Words of 2024 at the top of this post!
Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!
Important Dates and Reminders:
- Wednesday-Friday: Conferences all afternoon – 11:30am Dismissals
- Thursday: No PE
- Monday, January 8: Spelling Bee – 8:30am
- Tuesday, January 9: PE resumes
Our Learning:
- Math: Review of multi-digit addition/subtraction and basic multiplication/division facts to warm our brains up from winter break!
- Reading: This week, we’ll read The Island of the Blue Dolphins.
- Writing: Opinion — Before the break we started working on strong opinion statements. Now, we’ll work on supporting our opinion with reasons.
- Grammar: Complete sentences versus sentence fragments
- Religion: Kindness Helps People in Need
- Science: The Birth of Rocks — Why do some volcanoes explode?
- Social Studies: **upcoming Social Studies test on California Natives and Explorers
Homework: Due January 9

- No written reading homework, but students are encouraged to read 20-30 minutes each night.
