Dear 4th Grade Families,

It’s been great meeting with you so far for Beginning of the Year Conferences! So much progress has already been made this year which is awesome. If you haven’t signed up for a time to meet, please refer to my email about conferences or send me a new email. I look forward to meeting with the rest of you soon!

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!

Important Dates and Reminders:

  • Monday, October 23-Tuesday, October 31: Halloween Tattoo Sales ($1 each)
  • Friday, October 24: 2pm Dismissal, Assembly, and Families
  • Friday, October 24: Free Dress (with donation to Adopt-a-Family)
  • Friday, October 24: Parent Group Harvest Festival @ 4:30pm
  • Tuesday, October 31: FREE free dress for Halloween (no costumes)
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: PE! Please have students wear appropriate shoes and their PE uniforms.
  • Tuesdays: Library Day! Our class will visit the library every Tuesday afternoon to “check out” and read books. Students are able to take 2 books/week and can return and re-check out new books each week.

Our Learning:

  • Math: Multiplication Facts! We are practicing our facts this week and learning about factors and multiples. As we do this, we also study prime and composite numbers.
  • Reading: Reading Groups continue for differentiated learning. As a class, we practice making inferences about our characters as we read The Tiger Rising.
  • Writing: Personal Narratives – We are in the final stages of our 1st writing masterpiece! Students have edited and peer edited their work and move onto publishing. Exciting stories coming soon!
  • Grammar: Prepositions!
  • Religion: We learn about the role of the Pope and Popes of the past, tracing them all the way back to Peter! We discuss why Jesus chose Peter to be the keeper of the keys to the kingdom!
  • Science: This week, we will take our first Science test all about how the human body is like a machine.
  • Social Studies: Pre-Columbian Settlements and People: What was life like for native Californians before other settlers arrived? 

Homework: DUE OCTOBER 31

  • Reading Response Journal: around 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
    • This week for their journal responses, students will read fiction books. Please have them use the menus as their guide. As students complete reading responses, have them color or cross out the activity chose.
  • IXL: (Students do not need to reach 100%. Please encourage your students to do their best, but 100% is not required)
    • 4th Grade Math G.4: Find all the factor pairs of a number 
    • 4th Grade Math G.5: Choose the multiples of a given number up to 10
