Dear 4th Grade Families,

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Don’t forget to check out our most recent episode of the 4th Grade Pod”class” linked below.

  • Monday, April 15: Art with Ms. Sofer
  • Tuesday, April 16: Library
  • Friday, April 19: 12pm Dismissal
  • Math: This week, our class continues practice with measuring and drawing angles. Students are practicing this by measuring the angles within their names! Soon, we will be taking our chapter test which will include problems focused on division and angles.
  • Reading: Our differentiated Reading Groups continue to meet. This week, we dive further into By the Great Horn Spoon and practice the skill of using context to discover the meaning of unfamiliar words.
  • Writing: Last week, we made a lot of progress on our classbook! We will be sending off our materials to the company to become published authors at the end of this week and we are very excited! – This week, we are starting up our informational reports. We will remind ourselves what an informational report is and students will plan what their topic will be for their own reports.
  • Grammar: Unit Review — Capitalization, Similes/Metaphors, Sentence Fragments/Complete Sentences, Synonyms/Antonyms, Roots/Affixes
  • Word Work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be. Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week.
  • Religion: This week, we wrap up our studies of Mary and take our Unit Test.
  • Science: Our Science studies this week include using an oscilloscope to take a closer look at sound waves! Our focus this week is on why some sounds are high and others low.
  • Social Studies: Gold Rush!
  • Reading Homework: Letter to the Teacher
    • This week, we continue with the Letter to the Teacher. After reading 20/min day this week, students will write a letter detailing what they read. Please see your student’s homework folder for more details, as well as your email. One letter summarizing this information is to be completed by next Tuesday.
    • I enjoyed each letter I received this week and can’t wait to hear what new things everyone has to say next Tuesday!
  • Math Homework:
    • IXL skills:
      • JJ7 – Draw angles with a protractor
      • JJ9 – Adjacent angles

Let’s have a great week,

Ms. Schmaeling
