One of the grade 4 LA Archdiocese standards for religion is for students to know and understand the Ten Commandments.  This week we continue our study of the Commandments with the Fifth Commandment.

God tells us in the Fifth Commandment to respect life and to protect it.  God wants us to care for all life, our own lives, and the lives of others.

This week we will discuss what it means to take care of ourselves as valued children of God.  Students will discuss and list ways to stay healthy, and things to avoid.  We will also talk about what it means to care for others.

The following are great points for conversation with your children at home:

* how we care for each other when someone is sick or in need in other ways

* the people in our family or in our neighborhood whom we know need help and how we can help them

* ways we can take good care of ourselves

Next week we will discuss the Sixth Commandment.  Our focus will be on remaining faithful to ourselves and to our friends.

Blessing,

Mrs. Sharon Redmond
