Dear 4th Grade Families,

Happy Earth Day! Today we learned about how we can do our share in reducing, reusing, and recycling to care for our planet. We went on a scavenger hunt and did some leaf rubbings too! Our Middle School Service department came by to lead us in an activity to end our day and encourage us to take action for the Earth.

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Don’t forget to check out our most recent episode of the 4th Grade Pod”class” linked below.

  • Monday, April 22: Art with Ms. Sofer
  • Tuesday, April 23: Library
  • Friday, April 26: 2pm Dismissal and Intermediate Centers!
  • Next Week: Spirit Week for Color Run! (more details to come)
  • Friday, May 3: Color Run – 12pm Dismissal
  • Math: This week, we practice our division skills with multi-digit divisors. We also review our knowledge of angles: how to measure and categorize them. We will be taking our unit test this week which will cover these two main topics.
  • Reading: Our differentiated Reading Groups continue to meet to work on fluency, comprehension, and other group-specific skills. We continue to read By The Great Horn Spoon as a class.
  • Writing: This week, we send our classbook off to be published! We also are narrowing down our topics for our informational reports. Students will choose a “seed” topic that is focused so that our reports can be detailed! Students will also be making writing goals for themselves and starting the research process for these reports.
  • Grammar: Commas in a Series
  • Word Work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be. Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week.
  • Religion: We learn about how God’s gifts for us and how we can show Him love.
  • Science: This week, we get to use the oscilloscope more to learn about sound waves. We will be taking our Science test this week all about Sound.
  • Social Studies: Gold Rush!
  • Reading Homework: Letter to the Teacher
    • This week, we continue with the Letter to the Teacher. After reading 20/min day this week, students will write a letter detailing what they read. Please see your student’s homework folder for more details, as well as your email. One letter summarizing this information is to be completed by next Tuesday. — Great letters so far! Check your checklist to see if any improvements could be made.
  • Math Homework:
    • IXL skills:
      • A.10: Convert between place values
      • B.2: Compare numbers up to one billion

Let’s have a great week,

Ms. Schmaeling
