No fooling it is April 🙂 Hope all enjoyed the beautiful weekend! Look for a nicely decorated envelope coming home this week. Our Channel Islands Museum and Visitor Center field trip has been scheduled for April 15 at 11:30 to 2:15. Please send back permission slip and $17.00 to cover bus cost and time at the museum.

Academics this week:

Through Lent, our focus: the Life of Jesus. This week we will work on ways to show we understand His life starting as the infant Jesus. The Stations of the Cross will be at 11:00 on Friday. Parents and family members are always welcome to join us for Mass and Stations of the Cross.

Word work – help your child with the sorts that come home. They know what to do! It is helpful to glue the sorts on paper and keep those papers to review sounds/words of the pictures.

Reading and phonics workshops: shared reading with our class, partner and individual reading. Phonics continues with blending letters sounds to make words. Word families: short /i/, initial sounds /t/ and /d and blends /sp/, /sk/, and /sm/.

Writing workshop finds us writing a story – beginning, middle and ending. Each page tells about something we have done or want to do.

Poetry practice each day! By Friday I will select five finalists for judging on Tuesday, April 9th. We are competing with five First grade finalists. Practice at home, too.

Math finds us starting section 7. Only one more section after that! Our work this week continues with the collection chart. If you have a couple extra stickers please send in. Math number stories help with language and understanding symbols through drawing. Spiraling back to geometry: a fun way to show 2-D and 3-D shapes, and always skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.

Science lessons continue with weather. A fun experiment in the lab this week to showing water collects in clouds – when full, rain falls on Earth.

Social studies begins a unit on our National Symbols.

Art lesson with Miss Nancy on Tuesday!!

Friday is a noon dismissal –

Have a blessed week ~ Mrs. Brown
