Hello Kindergarten Families!

Your children are adjusting to school well and building stamina. It is nice to see friendships starting to form as we work and play together.

This week we have a noon dismissal on Friday to start the 3-day weekend for Labor Day.

Looking ahead – Friday, September 6 is Grandparent’s Day. Please send in a close friend if your child’s grandparents can not be here. If needed, parents can substitute for grandparents. It is very important for young children to have someone here for them. We start with Mass on Friday. Meet us at the church. A reception for Grandparents in Biedermann Hall after Mass while students have recess. Classroom visits begin about 10:20. The day will end at 12:00.

Academics for the week:

Starting with Religion, textbook chapter 2 “Names are Good.” Scripture for the week: “At the name of Jesus every knee should bend.” When attending Mass genuflecting is something we are working on, bending the right knee! It would be helpful to practice at home as well. Gospel Weeklies are an addition to our faith formation. This week we learn about gathering for Mass and will make a booklet for home.

Language Arts – our phonics work is learning more letters by studying our names. The focus letter this week is Ss. Writing workshop – continues with narrative pictures and beginning to write letters for words as we write a true of something we have done or want to do. Readers Workshop has us finding letters Mm and Ss as we read. And looking at pictures to predict what is happening on each page to help understand and be able to retell the story.

Math finds us comparing, sorting, and measuring and a review of patterns.

Science – exploring soil will be our lab and checking our seeds as they begin to sprout. We will start an online component called Mystery Science this week.

Social studies – Labor Day and occupations!

That should take us through the week!

Blessings ~ Mrs. Brown
