Dear Kindergarten Families,

Thank you for visiting our class last week, for Back to School Night. If you have any questions please send me an email.

This week begins our second full week of school! Your children did very well with full days of school last week.

Friday is a noon dismissal,  EDC is available at 12:00 on Friday.

Labor Day is Monday September 3. Three day weekend coming!

Looking ahead …. September 7 is Grandparent’s Day or Special friends day with a noon dismissal. More information coming soon.

Academics:

Religion – Names and welcomes, the importance of respect.  The focal point in our Religion text is Jesus loves us and His name is holy. Scripture from the lesson: At the name of Jesus every knee should bend. based on Philippians 2: 9-10

ELA -(English Language Arts)  letter recognition and letter sounds, print formation, and rhyming skills. Reading Workshop continues with listening to reading, privately reading and partner reading.  Working on beginning reading skills and strategies, read pictures and discuss with partner and share with class. Our non-fiction reading we call “learn about the world books” and our fiction reading now is “old favorites.” Writing Workshop continues each day with writing a piece telling about something we like to do. A class story telling what we like to do at school. So far it’s all about playing on the playground! 🙂

EM – (Everyday Math) working with numbers 0-10 we are making a book showing that number on each page. This book will finish Monday. Focus for the rest of the week will be sorting, experimenting with volume, using sand and water to compare and to develop the awareness of size- more, less, or same.  Graphing for information our  birthdays and age.

Science finds us learning about living things. We start with animals, discussing and describing their needs, similarities and differences.

We will discuss occupations for Social Studies noting why we celebrate Labor Day.

That should take us through the week!

Blessings,

Mrs. Brown
