Dear Parents,                   May 6, 2013

We have concluded theme 9 and are moving right into our last theme- Theme 10! Our reading strategy this week is predict/infer. The comprehension skill that will help us with this is predicting -using the text, pictures, and our own prior knowledge will help us predict what may happen in the story. Our phonics focus this week is on r-controlled words. This is a vowel + r (such as turn, girl, fern) and the -or and -ore sounds (as in born and store). Our grammar focus is describing what we hear. Although we have finished our spelling book, we will still be practicing words that are either related to our phonics or are sight words. This week they will be relating to our phonics.

We will begin our new chapter in math: “Addition and Subtraction Facts to 20”. There will be no homework on Monday as we will take our pretest, but after that we will be on a roll!

In religion we will turn our focus to our growth and care for ourselves found within our Family Life series.

We will bring our study of seasons and weather in science to a close and in social studies we will put the final touches on a project we have been working on from last unit.
