FIRST GRADE NEWSLETTER


NOTE FROM MRS. VAZQUEZ:

Grandparents/VIP  Day was a success.  We did a little singing, work, and prayer.  I hope everyone had a great time as much as I did. We continue learning our routine, new games, and new skills in First Grade.


HOMEWORK

Homework is always do on Tuesday.

  • Reading Log 15+ min. daily (Students must write their own name, write tally marks, & write minutes)
  • Math IXL.com Skill A.3 (100%)
  • Language IXL.com Skill A.2 (100%)
  • Math/Language Worksheet (Please make sure your child colors the worksheet/writes their own name)

Reading Log:  Students are to read or be read to for 15 minutes daily.  Please have your child write their name at the top of the reading log and fill in tally marks.

A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS


Language Arts: We continue to work on Kindergarten Review. We are reviewing letter sounds( M, S, T, G, H, F, P, A, B, J, W, K, C, D) and printing letters.   We continue our Reader’s Workshop by learning what to do when one is done reading their book.

Do SOMETHING at the end:

  1.  Reread your favorite part of the story.
  2. Retell the story to yourself.
  3. Reread the whole book
  4. Think about what you read.

In writing, we will begin our official writer’s workshop on Wednesday.

Math: We will work on finding out patterns, tally marks, greater and less than.  We will learn to play two new games (penny game and bunnyhop).

Religion: We started Unit 1 in Religion:  Jesus is our Friend

Science: We will read and learn about the plant life cycle.



REMINDERS



  • Our Family Envelope will go out today.
  • We will return our library books on Tuesday and check out a new one. 🙂  I will be increasing to checking out two books by next month.
  • Remember PE uniforms on Tuesday and Thursday! Please make sure that long hair is pulled back and all students are wearing tennis shoes that they can tie themselves.
  • As a reminder, if your child cannot tie their own shoes, your student must wear Velcro shoes, especially on P.E. days. Please see our school handbook for more information regarding dress code.
  • We have Mass every Friday.  All families are welcome to attend at 8:30.  Every first Friday of the month, we have a “family mass” where children participate in mass including our friends (3-8) in choir.
  • FULL DAY Friday.
  • FREE DRESS next week on September  ($1 or more donation to the Los Angeles Archiodicese Adopt a Family.)
