A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

Language Arts:

Reading: Our new unit is all about nonfiction just like our writing. We have learned that taking a sneak peek of a nonfiction is one way to find out what you will learn. 🙂 Here are a few things we continue to learn this week:

  • Stop and study each page because tudying one page in a book can teach so much
  • Guess what might come next. For example, I be the next page will tell about…
  • Reader’s learn more by chatting about what’s happening (our favorite activity to do in class is turn and tell your partner)
  • Remembering the information they learned is important. Practice telling someone what you have learned about your topic at home.

Writing: We are checking our writing for sight words (snap words) spelled correctly.

Math: We continue Addition facts 0, 1, 2 and double facts. We are learning to make lines with our rulers and always remember to start at 0 to begin measuring. We have also learned to measure with objects. Please begin practicing math facts in addition and subtraction at home. I know there are a lot of apps that will help with automicity in math facts. Start with 0, 1, 2 … Flash cards always work too. 🙂 I will start testing the kids beginning with the 0 math fact (0+1=, 0+2=) with 2/3 minutes to complete. They are super excited since we are starting with 0.

Science: Please make sure you come visit the fair on February 20th (6:00-7:15)
