Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week

MATH:  Unit 4 will be about measurement using nonstandard units such as hands, paces, and arm spans. We will work on vocabulary like about, almost, a little more, and a little less during this unit.

Other math concepts: *inch is introduced *meauring tools*automatic recall of basic facts

READING: It continues being about learning good reading habits (sneak peek, check your sneak peek, and do something after you read). We have learned to reread to see more. We practiced in class so have them try it after they read a book.

We are learning to stop our bad habits such as the freeze, guessing the word, and mumbling the word. Students are learning to take words apart to figure out the words and checking the picture/text to see if it makes sense. Reading daily at home makes such a huge difference. Keep it up!!!

WRITING:  How To Books… we are revising, adding details, pictures, etc. Please make sure to take the time to listen to them read a HOW TO BOOK. If something is not clear, you can ask them the following: What did you mean when you wrote…? Can you show me what that looks like? I’m a little confused with …. can you help me understand? What does that mean?

SPELLING/WORD SORT:  Look in their planner for the spelling words. Spelling test on Monday.  Have them say it and lay it for you.

Fun ways to practice words:

*I’m thinking of a word and it begins with… b and rhymes with tell. Answer: bell

*Use play dough to spell/wikki sticks

*Time them when they are reading their sort/Time them to see how fast they can say it and lay it.

RELIGION: We finished chapter 12: Holy Family, Mass, parish. We begin Unit 3: Jesus Shows Us He Is Good. You can read page 114 to see what unit 3 is all about this trimester.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Things from long ago…
