Dear Parents,                     March 21, 2016

This week in first grade, we are learning…

Language Arts Our reading strategy this week is “evaluating”. The comprehension skill that will help us in evaluating is topic, main idea, details, and summarizing. After reading a selection, being able to identify the topic of the selection, the main ideas and the details will help us in evaluating whether we enjoyed the selection. Our phonics focus this week is the /ou/ sound spelled with ou as in round or ow as in owl. Our grammar focus this week is action words (verbs) in the present tense.

Spelling: Our spelling words this week, are from unit 25. These words review long vowels sounds with the CVCe pattern.

Math: We are wrapping up our geometry unit! We will review in the beginning of the week and will end by taking our test before break!

Religion: We will be continuing our reading from our religion books this week: Jesus Gives the Gift of Himself. We will also continue with Benjamin’s Box. Once again, I do encourage you to ask your child daily about Benjamin’s Box, as it is a story relating to the passion of Jesus.

Science: In science we are wrapping up our chapter on weather! We will be taking our test.

Social Studies: We will be learning how people change the land.
