Dear Parents,                     May 23, 2016

This week in first grade, we are learning…

Language Arts: We are still wrapping up Theme 10! Just as a reminder from last week, our reading strategy is monitoring and clarifying, the comprehension skill that helps us with this is cause and effect, our phonics focus has been adding –er and –est to base words and our grammar focus is comparing. We are done with our Spelling units for the school year! Woohoo! During the next few weeks, we will be reviewing the spelling words we have learned and spend a great deal of time working on our Zoo Reports!

Math: We will begin Unit 10, which is all about reviewing what we have learned throughout our year together. This week, we will be reviewing mental arithmetic, time, and collecting data.

Religion: We will be finishing our religion book this week with Chapter 25: We Give Glory to God.

Science: In science we are still talking about matter! However this week, we will discuss how matter can change.

Social Studies: As we finished Unit 5 last week, we will be taking the last few weeks of school to review and to practice reading maps and globes.

Homework for the Week:

  • Monday: Math Worksheet
  • Tuesday: Math Worksheet
  • Wednesday: Math Worksheet
  • Thursday: Read 3 times!

Reminders for the Week:

  • PE Uniforms on Tuesday and Thursday!
  • Please remind your child to bring their library book on Tuesday! Students will not be checking in a new book this week, so that Mrs. Solomon can make sure all books are accounted for before summer.
  • Special Family Envelope will be coming out on Tuesday!
  • Wednesday is Jog-a-Thon free free dress day!
  • Wednesday night is the School Year Memory Slide Show at 6:30pm in Biedermann Hall!
  • Friday is no school and the beginning to a four-day weekend in observance of Memorial Day!

Have a great week!
