It was so nice seeing you at Back to School Night! It was a pleasure meeting you and getting a chance to speak with you all! I look forward to a great school year.
Our weekly newsletter will contain all of our important information for the week, as well as homework assignments, and sneak peeks to our academic week!
Of course, always feel free to email me with any questions you may have!
Homework:
Homework folders will be sent out with your children on Tuesday afternoon and will not be due until the following Tuesday! This week I have included picture day forms in homework folders. Please make sure to take a look at the form for information on ordering school pictures.
- Reading log: 100 minutes/week
- Fluency
- Math IXL: T.3, B.3, A.5
Let’s aim for 100 minutes of reading this week. Reading logs filled out, too. Fluency passages will be sent home in the folders as well. If anyone needs a reminder on how to record the fluency progress, feel free to email me!
Sneak peek to our week:
We have been working hard in third grade!
Math: We have been reviewing on number sequences and number grids. Now, we have gone into analyzing and displaying data through tally charts and bar graphs. A lot of this chapter is review from second grade, but it is always good to refresh our memory before we step into the third grade “stuff”!
Word Work: We will continue to practice our word work skills. The words written in your child’s planner for this week is just for in-class use. They will not be tested on those words this Friday.
Reading: In reading, we have been working on establishing a powerful reading life by valuing the books we read and using different strategies to find “good-fit” books. We will continue to set goals and track our progress throughout Unit 1.
Writing: We have all been writing up a storm! We have begun our narrative (true stories) writing, talking a lot about strategies and ways to combat our (sometimes) writer’s block!
Religion: We have begun our religion with a lot of prayer, creating our own prayers for the third grade school year. This week we will talk a lot about how God calls us to Faith, and we will realize that we are all called to be one of God’s holy people.
Science: This week we begin our Unit on Adaptations.
Important dates:
- This Friday, 8/31, is a half-day!
- NO school on Monday, 9/3, Labor Day
- Wednesday, 9/5 is our school picture day.
Have a wonderful week,
Miss Poindexter
