Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Thank you parents for making Primary Centers a great day! Your time and prep work was greatly appreciated.  If you need another service hour sheet click here:  2011-2012-Service-Hours-Sheet

I have envelopes coming home today for our outreach program, “Hey, Little Ant.” This program cost $7.00, if paying by check, make it out to ‘Sacred Heart School’, in the memo write name of program. Payment is due this Friday.

This week has a full day on Friday, we will work with our school families, preparing for Catholic Schools Week.

Religion continues with the  Family Life series. Last week we discussed “Helping Others” by saying kind words and learning the importance treating others with respect.  This chapter worked well as we listened to Martin Luther King’s message.  Each week we discussing one of our School-Wide Learning Expectations. The focus last week was SLE’s A.1 “Learning About the Church and Share with Others.” Your children are writing and drawing as they interpret each SLE.

Next Tuesday, January 24 we will celebrate our 100 day of school.  A 100 day paper bag will be coming home this week.  Work together to find 100 items that fit in the bag.  We have been counting to 100 by 5’s and 10’s every day. Please group your child’s items by 5’s or 10’s. Have them keep the items a secret. It will make our 100 day class time more fun. We will use our sense of hearing as a center game, by gently shaking the bag to guess what it is inside. More information/suggestions coming home this week.

Parent’s Day is on Friday of next week. A school Mass is at 8:30. Please join us for Mass, if your schedule permits. If you are planning on attending Mass with us, please wait outside the church and meet us. This will help us finish our morning routine. Parent’s Day is an important day for your students, we will enjoy having you in class helping in our academic center activities.

It is time to begin checking out books from our school library. These books can come home to read and enjoy. The library book must come back to school on Mondays in order to check out a new one. Our library day is Tuesday.

Reading strategies this week comprehension and noting details. As your read with your child stop, ask questions and discuss details.  Our focus is on sight words and letter sounds to begin to read simple consonant vowel consonant (CVC) word families. Math has us working on numbers 6-12. We  will continue to watch the bears in Minnesota. If you would like to visit the site to learn more about our black bear study, click on “bear.

Enjoy your week!
